Fairweather Friends is Ferns’ 2nd album and is a good way to spend an idle afternoon at home instead of pursuing useful activities such as exercising, working and getting sunshine.

Being full of vim and vigour fresh off the release of On Botany, the band ruthlessly laid plans to bust out a quick “rough & ready” EP of live in-studio recordings. But that was not to be.

Three years and innumerable wheezing attempts later, and Fairweather Friends is ready to squeeze its merry way out into the light.

The new album thankfully retains those nuggets of live studio tomfoolery, yet is made whole by a complement of younger, sexier bedfellows – who you‟re not likely to kick off the mattress. Fairweather Friends represents a small sidestep from the dreampop mists of On Botany into the unaffected terra firma of pop-rock ‘n’ roll.

Rather than fiddle with high-falutin‟ conceptual themes, Ferns is content to tell you that they wrote a bunch of songs with lyrics that just happened to reference weather. Given the meteorological limitations of the equator where Ferns is firmly planted; it certainly took some stretch of imagination.

The album features whimsical artwork from artist extraordinaire Shika whom, Ferns is assured, achieved the eruption of searing colours completely without the aid of pharmaceuticals.
